The 2024 African Military Games (AMGA) concluded in Abuja, Nigeria on Saturday, November 30, with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, praising the sporting event as a symbol of the growing solidarity among Africa’s military forces in tackling the continent’s security challenges.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, General Musa highlighted the importance of the AMGA in fostering unity and collaboration among African nations.

The games, which saw participation from 20 countries, featured a series of athletic events that promoted cooperation and sportsmanship within Africa’s military community.

General Musa stated that the event was not just about athletic competition but also about strengthening ties between African armed forces.

“Over the past several days, the National Stadium in Abuja has been a hub of camaraderie, excellence and sportsmanship.

“We have witnessed a powerful demonstration of how sports can bridge boundaries, foster friendship and strengthen bonds among the Armed Forces of Africa.

“This year’s edition, featuring participants from 20 nations, is a testament to the increasing solidarity and collaboration among African military forces.

“The athletes have showcased not just their physical prowess, but also their dedication, discipline and determination, qualities that define the military ethos,” he said.

He stressed that the games demonstrated how sports could unite people and promote lasting bonds among military personnel from different nations.

No casualties were reported during the competition, a result that Gen. Musa attributed to the athletes’ fitness and professionalism.

He commended the participants for showcasing discipline, determination, and military ethos, with each athlete representing their country with honour.

“To the victors, congratulations. To those who didn’t win medals, your participation has enriched the spirit of the Games,” he said.

The CDS also thanked Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and his administration for their support in hosting the successful event.

He urged the participants to continue the spirit of collaboration beyond the event, working together to build a safer and more prosperous Africa.
