Nigeria’s Tochukwu Okeke delivered a stellar performance at the ongoing 2nd Africa Military Games 2024 in Abuja, securing a silver medal in the fiercely contested men’s 87kg Greco-Roman wrestling event.
In a thrilling finale, Okeke defeated Tunisia’s Sobri Mmosria 7-5, winning another medal for Team Nigeria.
The event, which featured four wrestlers in a round-robin format, saw Okeke battle through three matches with determination and skill.
Okeke emerged victorious in two bouts but fell short in one, narrowly missing out on the gold medal.
His efforts, however, were enough to earn him the silver medal, a proud moment for the Nigerian contingent and his supporters.
The Nigerian showcased technical superiority and composure, turning the match in his favour with a well-executed offensive strategy.
The Greco-Roman 87kg category saw intense competition, with participants representing some of Africa’s most accomplished military wrestling teams.
The round-robin format required each wrestler to face every other competitor, adding to the physical and mental demands of the contest.
