Squash has emerged as one of the standout sports at the ongoing 2024 Africa Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria.
Though traditionally overshadowed by sports like football and athletics, squash has gained significant attention during the ongoing tournament.
Relatively large crowds gathered to witness the electrifying matches, and watch the sport’s unique combination of skill, discipline, and camaraderie.
Athletes from nations including South Africa and Nigeria dominated the courts.
Nigeria, a recognized powerhouse in squash, delivered commanding performances led by Adeyi Odumage, Udoh Victoria, Nwafor Faith, and Sarka Alabibat.
Their thrilling rallies and skilful gameplay kept audiences on the edge of their seats.
Team Nigeria’s squash coach, Bernard Mkpe Richard, expressed optimism for the future of the sport.
“We are committed to maintaining our best performances and are hopeful that this momentum will translate into greater support for squash at grassroots and elite levels across the continent,” he said.
