Kenya exacted their revenge on Ethiopia in the highly competitive men’s 5000m race at the ongoing African Military Games (AMGA 2024) in Abuja, Nigeria.
In a commanding performance, Kenya clinched gold and silver, leaving Ethiopia to settle for bronze and fourth place.
Spte. Bravin Kiptoo of Kenya ran a stellar race, taking the lead and finishing in 13:51.91 to secure the gold medal.
His compatriot, L/Cpl. Peter Mwaniki, crossed the finish line shortly after, clocking 13:56.10 to claim silver.
Ethiopia’s Taye Meseret Mulu fought hard but could only manage a 13:56.85 finish, earning the bronze medal. Another Ethiopian runner completed the race in fourth, just missing the podium.
This victory reinforces Kenya’s reputation as a powerhouse in middle- and long-distance running in the African military sporting arena.
